RunRepeat found the Hoka Torrent 3 to be exceptionally stable and excels on nearly all dry terrains, while iRunFar noted improvements in the outsole, which performed better on wet rock and felt stickier and more durable. However, RunRepeat and iRunFar both agree that the shoe falls short on technical trails, with RunRepeat stating it lacks a rock plate and iRunFar noting the lack of protection and potential for the side lugs to shred off. Road Trail Run also found the traction on wet rock to be disappointing and noted that the shoe is best suited to shorter distances on trail, performing best on softer ground.
