What Reviewers Say

The Bottom Line

The Agravic 4 continues Adidas's tradition of a firm, responsive, and grippy trail shoe. It's a workhorse for technical terrain, offering excellent ground feel and reliable traction, though its cushioning might leave ultra-distance plush-seekers wanting more. A solid choice for focused trail efforts where precision matters.

On the Trail

Lacing up the Agravic 4, you immediately feel its secure, performance-oriented fit. Out on the varied trails of the PNW, the Continental rubber outsole truly shines, biting into everything from wet roots to loose scree with unwavering confidence. Ground feel is exceptional, allowing for precise foot placement on technical ascents and descents. The firmer midsole, while responsive and efficient, certainly makes its presence known over longer efforts, especially on prolonged hardpack sections. It feels nimble and agile, encouraging a faster pace rather than a plodding one. Protection from rocks and debris is adequate, with a robust upper that holds its own against trail abuse. It's built for purpose, not for pampering.

Who It's For

This shoe is for the runner who prioritizes ground connection, precise handling, and superior traction on technical trails. If you prefer a firmer, more responsive ride over plush cushioning, especially for races up to 50k or even 50 miles for those with tougher feet, the Agravic 4 is a strong contender. It's also a great training shoe for varied terrain, building foot strength and agility. Not your first pick for road-to-trail or recovery runs.

What We'd Change

While the firm ride has its merits, a touch more forefoot cushioning would significantly extend its comfort range for ultra distances without sacrificing too much responsiveness. A slightly roomier toe box would also be welcome, allowing for natural foot splay over truly long hauls. A minor reduction in weight could also make it feel even more agile on race day.

The Verdict

The Adidas Terrex Agravic 4 is a purpose-built trail weapon. It delivers exactly what it promises: superb traction, excellent ground feel, and robust protection in a responsive package. It's a shoe that demands you run actively, rewarding precision and agility. While it won't be everyone's ultra-distance cruiser, for technical challenges and focused training, it remains a top-tier choice that earns its place in my rotation.
